My Memories of Ben- Sally Rowe

Created by Evie 2 years ago
I first met Ben when I was 14 and found I had a new family in Henwood. My brother Jeremy and I travelled by train to meet my Dad, Peter, his wife Sheila and sons Nick, Simon and Ben. I always enjoyed my visits we played many games and explored the countryside and moors around us. We also had many picnic trips to the beach and Dartmoor. As we grew up I got to know Ben as a loving , kind and generous person with an amazing memory and a good sense of humour. My children always loved him, he was the 'cool' uncle with his pony tail. He helped us to move house and we had many laughs, though it was exhausting!

I was delighted when he met and married Susie. I have many happy memories of their visits to West Cornwall with Evie and Romilly. Often this was with Sheila, by this time they had moved in with Sheila so she had company. And as she became more frail they took on the caring role, to enable Sheila to stay in her own home.

Ben was a talented jeweller and had his own workshop. He made my wedding and engagement rings and made several jewellery repairs for myself and the family.

I was privileged to spend time with him when he became ill talking about our growing up, the family and our children. Ben loved family. I will miss him very, very much.
